Handmade soaps using only the best ingredients sourced locally and Australia wide.

IndigoJY is a small business and I believed in a kinder way of living and producing what is necessary to us modern mankind. Here is the list of most of the ingredients I use in making my soaps and their properties.

Vegetable Oils and Butters

  • Extra Virgin oil is a powerful ingredient; rich in antioxidants, it prevents skin aging, it also nourishes, rejuvenates and protects the skin. It produces a mild soap that is excellent for sensitive skin.
  • Coconut oil is equally important in my recipes because of its high cleansing properties. It produces large and fluffy bubbles. It is a skin softener and helps prevents skin dryness.
  • Cocoa butter is an edible vegetable fat extracted from the cocoa and helps to have a long lasting soap bar. Full of healthy fatty acids it is great to help heal dry and sensitive skin.
  • Shea Butter: Again here is a butter highly concentrated with natural vitamins and fatty acids, making of it an incredibly nourishing and moisturizing ingredient for the skin. This butter also helps in producing a nice lather and a long lasting bar.
  • Castor oil is the one responsible for most of the luscious bubbles in my soaps. Among its many properties, castor oil has antifungal and anti-bacterial properties
  • Sunflower Oil Its benefits for the skin are strong as the oil is high in Omega-6 fatty acid along with Vitamin E. It also brings to the soap a medium lather and additional cleansing properties.

All these vegetable oils and butters combined together to offer a healthy and nourishing treat for all skin types.

Liquid

  • On top of the filtered water, which is the most common liquid used in soap making, I'll occasionally use in my soaps a variety of other liquid. Each of them brings their own beneficial properties to a recipe.
  • Vegetable milk such as Oat milk, Soy Milk, Coconut milk and Rice milk, will bring an additional creaminess to the soap.
  • Brewed coffee: Aside from its skin softening properties, it reduces the appearance of cellulite, and give your skin a wanted boost.
  • Brewed green tea adds an antibacterial property to your skin and leaves it fresh and clean.
  • Aloe Vera gel helps heal sunburn, add extra moisture to the skin and fights aging.
  • From the bees I use their Honey and Beeswax, which provide and extra antibacterial property to the soaps

Color

The coloring of my soap is the result of different botanical and mineral powders. Once again each of them adds specific qualities to the soaps however it is purely for aesthetic purposes that I add them in my recipes.

  • Botanical: Chamomile powder, Cinnamon, turmeric, Spiritual Aloe Vera powder, rosemary, verbena, lemongrass to name a few
  • Mineral: from Australian pink, green, red and yellow clay, charcoal, to man-made but still fine for your ultramarine and oxide powders.

Scents

I use only essential oils. It is interesting to know that, however popular citric scents are, it is difficult to get a citric scent using only EO as they are extremely delicate and rarely make it through the saponification process.

Glycerin

The glycerin is not an added ingredient in my recipe. It is actually produced during the soap making process called saponification.

It is a prized emollient that soothes and helps maintain a good water balance by attracting moisture to the skin. Its benefits for the skin are so well proven, that it is generally extracted from commercial soaps and reserved for more premium and pricey body care products.

Handmade soap holds on all of the natural glycerin goodness and provides a luscious lather unique to handmade soaps.

Sodium Hydroxide

Saponification is a chemical reaction which requires mixing oils or fats with sodium hydroxide, also known as lye. It is impossible to make soap without the use of lye. I understand that word might frighten people who remember in their tender age using lye heavy soap that left skin rough and dry. I am one of them myself. In the modern handcraft soap making process, although the method is similar, the ingredients are of higher quality, the equipment superior and most importantly precise mathematics calculations to guaranty every single bar of soap is perfect.

Vegan-Friendly

All products offered by IndigoJY are 100% cruelty-free and most products are vegan-friendly, however, you need to stay clear of the soap made with honey or beeswax.

No-Way “José” Ingredients

As you may have noticed all is pretty straight forward. No need for all the nasties added in so many of the commercial soaps.

  • Animal Fat-Free
  • Paraben and Sulfate Free
  • Preservatives Free
  • Unpronounceable Manufactured Chemicals Free
  • Palm Oil Free as it is not necessary to contribute to the destruction of the rain forest to make soaps.
